Welcome to the Cyclo-cross North East (CXNE) website. The first section of the website is focused towards new starters and should act as a guide for anyone who would like to attend their first event. We have put a lot of time and effort into keeping things simple, whilst covering as many of the questions asked by people new to the sport. By working through the guide you should end up with a full understanding of how CXNE events work, allowing you to arrive at your first event prepared for a brilliant day’s racing.

It’s fast, frantic, spectator friendly and damn good fun. Cyclo-cross – or cross, cyclo-x and CX – is a sport that takes modified road bikes off road in races that typically last for 60 minutes and includes obstacles where you need to dismount and run with the bike over your shoulder.

Whilst we hope we’ve hit the nail on the head straight away, we expect questions and suggestions to come from the guide. Get Started, the CXNE guide to riding and racing Cyclo-cross

We’ve put together this guide to help newcomers who would like to get involved with the league, but it also acts as a reminder about some of the rules and practices to those who have experience of riding in the league.

The guide has been split into four main sections:

  1. Let’s Begin – the absolute basics
  2. Entering a Race – everything to do with the entry process
  3. On the Day – a guide to what to expect when you turn up
  4. During the Race – just what it says on the tin

We hope the guide is crystal clear, but we’re open to feedback so get in touch if you spot an error or omission.
